how to get the radio out

I need to get to the back of the radio in my TW.
I have the manual Section 52A, and it says to take out the floor console first if you need to remove the Instrument panel. Problem is I just cant get to first base with removal of the cup-holder assy.
i believe if I get this out I will be able to get at the air control panel lower fixing screws.
The manual shows plastic clips everywhere, but I dont want to break anything.
Has anyone got any clues.
